Oren Kraus is completing his Ph.D. in Dr. Brendan Frey's PSI group at the University of Toronto. His research focuses on applying cutting-edge machine learning techniques (specifically deep learning) to high-throughput microscopy screens of cell biology. In collaboration with Dr. Charlie Boone and Dr. Brenda Andrews at the Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research (CCBR), Oren is generating datasets and training models with millions of individual cell objects from genome-wide screens in yeast. He is developing models to predict protein localization and cell cycle stage, as well as unsupervised models to identify morphological outliers and discover novel subcellular phenotypes. Oren received his B.S. and M.S. in mechanical engineering at the University of Toronto. In the summer of 2015, he was data science intern at Apple Inc.
