Speaker Bio

Mauricio Araya Polo is a computer scientist working for Shell International E&P Inc., where he leads efforts on diverse areas such as seismic imaging/modeling, and compressive sensing/machine learning. He is also adjunct professor of the computational and applied mathematics department at Rice University. Previously, he worked for Repsol USA researching near real-time visualization/computing HPC geophysical algorithms. He also worked at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center for the well-known Kaleidoscope project, which received many international awards, including "Energy Company of the Year" by the Petroleum Economist Magazine 2009 and IEEE Spectrum "Technology of the Year" in 2008.
